Western Stima prodigy Benson Omalla has been on the mark in his side’s last two league meetings and this brings him to an incredible 9 goals for the season- a tally almost unassailable for someone who still has to sit through high school classes throughout the week.
Omalla, a form four student at the Kisumu Day High School, scored his team’s opener last weekend as they dispatched Posta Rangers by a 2-0 scoreline. In the week prior to this, he had scored one of the two goals against the defending champions Gor Mahia- a match Stima lost 3-2.
Since being given his debut by Coach Salim Babu in a 2-0 loss to Kakamega Homeboyz, the 17-year-old has been a consistent feature for Stima in home games especially. He scored his first premier league goal against Kenya Commercial Bank in round 11, and bagged a hat-trick three weeks later against Zoo.
When they traveled to Nzoia Sugar, he scored twice in a 3-1 win. His next three goals came against Ulinzi Stars, Gor Mahia and Posta Rangers.
Omalla currently ranks 6th in the top scorers’ chart that is led by Tusker FC’s Timothy Otieno who is on 15 goals.
