Kisumu Day High School football team were the winners of the annual Kisumu Open tournament staged at the Kisumu School between February 1st and 2nd.
A tourney encompassing all disciplines, Day emerged supreme in football but only after taking down St Ignatius Magadi on post-match penalties. The two had come out even after ninety minutes of play.
In the semi-finals, Day had beaten St Mary’s Yala while Magadi had dispatched Nyakoko. The girls’ final had Masogo take down favorites St Ignatius Magadi by a solitary goal.
Magadi had beaten Kochogo 2-0 to reach the final while Masogo had taken down Lions High School by the same margin.
In basketball, it was an all-Western affair as Chesamisi did battle with Sigalame and were duly dispatched a 42-19 scoreline. Sigalame had in the semi-final beaten Nyang’ori 51-15 while Chesamisi had edged Kisumu Senior 15-13.
St Joseph’s Kisumu won the volleyball title after beating Kisumu School by two sets of 25-15 and 25-13.
Chesamisi managed to salvage the hockey crown after beating Ober Boys by three goals to two in a tightly contested final. Chesamisi had whipped Sigalame 2-0 in the semifinal while Ober Boys were 2-0 winners over St Mary’s Yala in the second semi.
Kisumu Girls meanwhile, took home the girls’ hockey crown after seeing off Rae Girls 2-0.
Lakers Hockey club emerged the best in the clubs’ category.
Nyang’ori High School were crowned champions in handball after defeating Kisumu Boys 10-09. Namasoli beat Masogo 10-06 in the girls’ final. Read the full handball report HERE.
